Lucknow: Lodging a complaint regarding the theft of mobile phones, chequebooks, passbooks, ATM cards, and other valuable items will no longer be limited to just a police station’s stamp. Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar has issued clear directives mandating that all theft complaints must also be entered into the police station’s General Diary (G.D.) and the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS).
This decision comes after the Allahabad High Court expressed dissatisfaction with police handling of theft complaints. The court remarked that merely stamping complaints and sending victims away reflects police negligence. Following this, the DGP has instructed all police stations to adhere strictly to the new guidelines.
Previously, complainants received only a stamped copy of their complaint, which was insufficient for legal proceedings. With this mandatory digital entry, the process of justice for victims will be expedited, and police accountability will increase.
Benefits of the New Rules:
- Theft complaints will be digitally recorded and accessible.
- Victims will be able to track their complaints more easily.
- Police will be prompted to take timely action on theft cases.
- False complaints will be easier to identify.
DGP Prashant Kumar has also warned that any police officer or station in-charge failing to comply with these directives will face strict action. This new rule is being seen as a significant step toward eliminating negligence at the police station level and ensuring justice for victims.
